    Shelter is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
    Services:
    NOA is a private, not-for-profit domestic violence shelter program. 26-nov-07 10:51 and Dawson Counties. NOA has a 24-hr crisis line and an 11- bed emergency shelter for battered women and their children. The services available to both residential and non-residential clients include: Women’s Support Group, Children’s Group, Professional Counseling, Legal Advocacy, Child Management classes, and Personal Advocacy (information, referrals, and assistance with housing, employment, child care, transportation, education, health needs). NOA also provides community and school education programs regarding domestic violence.

    All services are provided free of charge to clients.

    Rape Response is a rape crisis center responding to the needs of sexual assault victims from Lumpkin, Hall, Dawson, Habersham, and White Counties. Our services include a 24-hour crisis hotline, hospital support to victims in the emergency room, counseling for rape victims, family members and friends. Criminal justice support is provided for rape victims who are participating in court hearings or police investigations. All services are free and completely confidential

    Volunteer Opportunities:
    Rape Response welcomes women 20 years or older who have a strong interest in helping people. No previous education or training is required. Volunteers are on call at night and on weekends, on a rotating schedule and are free to maintain their own schedules while using the paging system to respond to any telephone or hospital emergency room calls. Training for new volunteer advocates takes place twice a year, in a series of classes, to total approximately 15 hours before joining the call schedule.

    Dahlonega Care Center provides free pregnancy tests to women in a crisis pregnancy situation. They provide free maternity clothes, baby clothes and baby items. In addition, they assist those who are eligible in applying for Medicaid.

Financial assistance with child care is subject to availabilities of funds.     The Family Connection Collaborative is comprised of local agencies, organizations, and individuals who work together to provide services to benefit the youth and their families in Lumpkin County. Family Connection provides Family Advocates, located in each elementary school, to assist families with location resources to help meet their needs. In addition, Family Connection provides students with proactive growth opportunities including challenge course activities, leadership training, peer helping/mentoring training and services, during school and after school enrichment courses, and summer camp classes. Family Connection also works in conjunction with Lumpkin County Schools targeting tobacco, alcohol and drug prevention programs.
    Volunteer Opportunities:
    To donate money or items to assist families in need contact Anita Middleton. Items needed include packaged and canned food, toiletries, school supplies, and books. Other ways to contribute are with gas vouchers, grocery gift certificates, and automotive repair vouchers. If you would like to donate money to help these families, make checks payable to Lumpkin Family Connection/Lumpkin County Schools and send to the address above.

    Provide orientation and training to individuals who would like to become a mentor for a Lumpkin County student and match mentees with mentors. What is a mentor? In general, a mentor serves as a friend, a guide, an advisor, and positive role model. Mentoring is an opportunity for adult leaders within our community to make a positive difference in a student’s life.
    Mentors are expected to make weekly contact in some form (phone call, postcard, email, and /or face to face) with their mentee. Mentors are expected to make face to face contact at least twice a month during the school day.

    Volunteer Opportunities:
    Serve as a mentor to a youth in the Lumpkin County School System.
